Rambles and nature walks

The woods, valleys and meadows around Črna are very special for walking, and for those interested in the flora and fauna that Slovenia has to offer. The area has a good mixture of gentle woodland and valley walks starting directly from the house, some of which can be taken further up onto the higher mountains. |

The abundant nature is particularly vibrant in the spring when the meadows are full of wild flowers, butterflies and other insects. A huge range of species can be experienced within just a small area. This is due to the Slovene approach to land management which is very traditional and tends to avoid the use of chemicals or fertilisers. |

The Topla valley is a specially protected conservation area where the woods can provide over 20 different species
of mushrooms and fungi within a few square meters in summer and Autumn time. The mushrooms can be delicious but only if you know which ones to eat. If in doubt, look but don't touch! However, the wild strawberries and blueberries that can be found beside the footpaths whilst out walking are a treat and well worth seeking out. At the house there is a walking guide and a number of ordanance survey style maps of the area which will help you find isolation and natural beauty. |

The Logarska Valley is one of Europe's most beautiful glacial alpine valleys. The valley is 35 minutes from Črna and provides tranquil walking in the valley and access to the peaks of the Kamniško-Savinjske Alps. A particularly lovely walk, which is not too difficult is to walk up to the 90 metre high Rinka waterfall. By the waterfall you will find a small mountain hut where a glass of beer or cup of coffee can be enjoyed whilst soaking in the surroundings.
